Licensing My Identity

It occurred to me sometime ago—likely in a drunken stupor—that it would be nice if I could license my identity, my personal identity, to others—namely illegal aliens or perhaps ex-cons—in exchange for a percentage of the wages they earn. It sounds really horrible and morally reprehensible but not really much different than the way most workers are treated by the companies and corporations they work for. And, after all, corporations have similar rights as individuals, why not allow individuals to have a kind of corporate identity that would give them legal working status under the corporation? I must admit, I’m no legal scholar, but then legality is merely another obstacle we must overcome when large profits are on the horizon!

Inland Empire, the latest film from director David Lynch is a 3 hour descent into fear and paranoia, replete with scenes of distorted and alternate realities, double lives and enigmatic, irrational signs and sounds. It’s beautiful for this, and if you can hang with it, it’s definitely a mind buzz. Laura Dern plays an actress just past the prime years of her career whose good fortune in being cast in a film is turned upside down when it is revealed the script is cursed. Confusion and madness follow…
